Discover Double Glazing
What is Double Glazing?
Double-glazed windows have two glass panels bonded together but separated by a gap of between 6mm-20mm. The gap between the panels improves insulation and protects against heat and noise, and the air inside replaced in ThermaPlus™ products by inert argon gas – further reducing heat transfer.
In Australia we have some of the highest energy prices of anywhere in the world, but installing double-glazed windows and doors in your home is one of the most effective ways to make it more energy efficient, saving you money year after year.
Coated performance glass, as standard in ThermaPlus and ThermaPlus Serenity, also adds dramatically to increase the heating, cooling and sound insulating qualities.
The role of windows and heat gain / loss
More than 80% of summer heat can enter your home through the windows, and in winter your windows can also be responsible for up to 40% of your heat loss!* Choosing double-glazed windows for your home can change all that by helping to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer – by up to 30%† when compared to single-glazed windows.
Double glazing helps you let in all of the light without the heat, cold or glare.
Unbeatable benefits
Regardless of your home type and location, double glazing is sure to benefit your lifestyle, comfort and energy costs through four key benefits that no other glazing solution can offer:
Reduces fading and protects from UV while still allowing natural light in.
Reduces energy costs of heating and cooling the space.
Keeps the cool in and the heat out. Reduces chance of condensation.
Reduces outside sound to improve comfort.

Undertanding this data
Nominal Thickness
Identifies the glass thickness. For double-glazed products, the first and last numbers is the thickness of each glass panel, and the middle number is the width of the gap in-between.
Visible Light Transmission
The percentage of visible light that passes directly through the glass. A higher percentage means more daylight gets through.
U Value
The measure of the rate of heat gain or loss through glazing caused by environmental differences between indoor and
outdoor air. The lower the value the better the insulation.
SHGC – Solar Heat Gain Coefficient
The proportion of total solar radiation that is transferred through glass in normal circumstances.
A lower number indicates a better performance.
Selectivity
The ratio of visible light transmitted to solar heat gain – indicating how well a window allows daylight in while blocking heat.
A high selectivity means the glass lets in more visible light but blocks more solar heat.
